Dog Tags and Pouch
Please find a selection of Model 1916 and Model 1917 Identity discs (dog tags). All have original neck cords. Most cords are in the traditional state colors with one made of “Tagel”. “Tagel” was authorized in September 1917 to replace the colored neck cords. M1916 dog tags were not designed to split in the middle. The soldier’s personal data was punched once. M1917 were made with slots to allow easy splitting the dog in half. The soldier’s personal data was stamped twice, once on either section of the dog tag. One part was collected and the other part remained with the soldier’s body.
Dog Tag #1 – A M1916 to a soldier assigned to the Garde Pioneer Battalion Nr.5. Black and white neck cord. SOLD + postage
Dog Tag #2 – A M1916 tag converted to a M1917 to a soldier assigned to Infantry Regiment Nr.142 and later assigned to Reserve Infantry Regiment 109. Short black (faded) and white cord. Probably shortened for suspender wear. SOLD + postage
Dog Tag #3 – A M1917 to a soldier assigned to the Pioneer Battalion Nr.6 and later assigned to Minenwerfer-Kompagnie Nr.12.. Black and white neck cord Great condition. SOLD + Postage
