Today, I had to pick up this nice 7.7 cm shell for the Krupp leichte feld kanone.

The dimensions are as follows:
Height = 227mm
Base = 91mm
Calibre = 77mm

Based on these dimensions its classified as a 7.7 cm cartridge for the Krupp leichte feld kanone according to the Kaiserbunker.

A close-up of the bottom of the shell reveals that it was made in January 1917 by the rheinische munitionsfabrik from Dusseldorf. St means that the shell was reinforced and SP61 is the manufacturers control / inspection mark. Based on the production date and St mark, this shell represents a standard production casing.

BTW I am also interested in a 420mm shell!

Edwin,

Nice collection !

BTW: Today exactly 100 years that a 42 cm shell hit the ammunition dump of the Liège fortress of Loncin !

Edwin your collection is coming along nicely!

I know that in Europe, a 42cm is the one casing that everyone seems to be after for obvious reasons. Impossible to find. Very people will ever even see one in a collection.

I would love to see this one, which I know you have looked at too! Look at he size of that thing. Unbeleivable! :lol:

There are several 42cm shells for display in the museum of fort Loncin. Perhaps I should make them an offer they can't refuse :D

Edwin ,if you haven’t been there already ,you MUST visit the MMP1917 in Zonnebeke.
(Memorial Museum Passchendaele 1917)

Mind you,the soldiers are not mannequins but British tourists who brought their reenactment gear. :)

LOOK at those shells. I am pretty sure that this collection of shells is my wife's nightmare :D

Last Friday, the mailman brought me yet another shell casing :D

IMG_8216

The dimensions are
height 92mm
diameter 122mm
calibre 110mm

Based on these dimensions it concerns a 105mm casing for the Krupp leichte Feldhaubitze, according to the Kaiserbunker.

The base of the cartridge contains some nice markings, which show that it was manufactured by Polte in Magdeburg in October 1900. 34 is the lot number of this batch of shells and 30 is the control / inspection mark.
