Make sure they are just surface cracks and not deep cuts. Nothing wrong with the liner. My opinion on the spike base plate is psychologically the soldier put it on top to get the feeling of added protection, see it quite often. Apparently the French and allies thought the same thing as they reassembled it in that fashion. Rob
 
Everyone is making good points, helmet is in great shape and the price at $750 is a great deal for a complete helmet in that condition, if you can afford it buy it before someone else does, and also you will get an in with this dealer that may payoff again in the future.

If you buy it and need to sell later, one if us would buy it for more then you paid....

What is everyone’s thoughts on the liner tie string? It is woven cloth similar in weave pattern to para-cord. I have one ersatz paper mache helmet that looked like it came out of a barn after 100 years when I got it. The remaining partial tie cord looked similar to the one in the photo.
