Authentic OR's 1B RIR111 Pickelhaube?

I recently purchased this pickelhaube at my local auction where it was listed 'as-is' without guarantee of authenticity for around 450USD. Despite some red flags, the overall appearance and condition seemed convincing enough to justify taking a chance on it. However, after closer inspection, several issues caught my attention:
  • A modern screw replacement on one of the Wappen screw
  • White patches inside the helmet potentially indicating mold growth
  • Small repairs made to the inner liner
  • Shiny leather finish at the Neck Guard Halswache
I can Barely see the unit marking which is 1B RIR111.
The dimension are W17cm x H22cm x D23.5cm
Could anyone provide some insight into how these potential issues might affect the authenticity or might damages this pickelhaube? I'd appreciate any thoughts or advice you may have
Thank you:D

Hi and congratulations to your helmet, it’s not a bad catch for 450$.
The helmet M1895 looks ok for me. But the emblem could have been added later to the helmet, as it should have the M1895 attachment with wire loops and leather wedges and you said it wasn’t attached with squared nuts but modern nuts. Furthermore, you have a wrong cockade. It should be a Baden cockade and an imperial cockade, not a Bavarian.

Hi
Thank you for clarifying the meaning of the left-side cockade. I had a tough time identifying its origin. It was a surprise it was a Bavarian cocade.

I'm trying to find some guidance on how to fix/replace the wappen screw since the modern screw welding is getting in the way of fitting in the holes which created a 1 centimeter gap.

Thank you

Thanks for your insight.
Your right I shouldn't touch up the wappen I may make it worse. I'll put it on the shelf
Thanks again!

Hi it has been a while.
I need help transcribing this german personal list. I found an inscription on the front visor which I thought it is the soldier's name that had this
Pickelhaube doing the great war, it is written as "Winter 1:/111" which I think "Winter" likely means the soldier's family name and "1/:111" means first company of RIR111
Sadly I can't read German so I asked my history teacher( he can read German) what is written on this personal list. He was able to translate the handwriting however he couldn't translate the cursive part. I would like to know peculiarly box 10a,10b, 12, 13. I tried using AI but some part it couldn't read.
I know his name is Hermann Adolf Winter and he was killed in action since the information is crossed out. He is the only soldier that has a family name of Winter in the first company.
If this soldier was the Winter that I was looking for I might do a presentation on this at my school's history day.

Thanks for the help! :D

I think you did quite well to pick up this helmet for $450. It looks like you have an original chinstrap and original Bavarian and Baden cockades. Those items alone would justify the cost of the helmet. Plus you will have hours of fun tracking down the history of the owner and the helmet.

It's what collecting is all about.

Thanks!
When I bought it I didn't know did I made the right call because for me $450 is quite sum of money, but now I am glad I made that decision to buy this beauty. :D
I had a blast researching and trying to find the owner of this helmet!

Thanks : )
Glad to hear my investment was worth it.
I feel as I am going into the rabbit hole of collecting things now.

I still need help translating the soldier's information, Any help is greatly appreciated(y)

Any help is greatly appreciated

Here is your guy, he later moved (31.3.1916) to the MG Scharfschützentrupp 161 of the RJR110, as written in his Kriegsstammrollen. And he was a Krankenträger (Sanitäter). First missed and then later declared as taken prisoner on the 1.7.1916:

Back home at the end of the war:

Philippe

10a: Als Ersatz Reservist zu 6/JR121 Ludwigsburg from 12.10.07 till 20.09.1909. (2 Jahre, 24 Tage)

Thank you so much! :D
I have been trying to translate it from more then 3 month.
I thought he transferred to Regiment 167 but I guess I was wrong.
Thank you again for your help!

I also found his Kriegsstammrollen at the 2K/ MG SST N°161.
While bandaging, captured by the English through no fault of his own, 2.7.16 in Fricourt.
