Some are made of black-painted cardboard, others of canvas-covered cardboard.
1---A black lacquered cardboard box: BING doesn't just make steel schells. (which were trademarked and accepted for manufacture by the army, under contract)
Let's take a look at my cardboard BING.

The originality of this BING is that it's an M15, fixed peak (= April to September). but the galvanized steel was covered with a fragile gilding that has partly disappeared.

On the outside, it looks like leather, because the coating is the traditional rubber.

No read spine
The leather cap is quite typical, the only one to be perforated with tiny sweat holes.
The plate, rivets and tip are original BING, as on those made of sheet steel.

These cardboard Bings are rarer than metal ones. In cardboard or sheet metal, they're always Bavarian. The Bing in sheet metal will be examined in the Ersatz in steel sheet section.
