Four Kokarden

I attended the Ottawa Militaria Show yesterday and picked up several items that I’ll be posting.

First acquisition of the morning was these four Kokarden. Very reasonably priced and even better when buying four at a time.

I was looking for a Bavarian OR’s to complete my Leibgarde restoration so I was quite happy to find one in my own backyard so to speak.

The two Prussian pieces will come in handy and replace a couple of repro that I was using as "place holders" until real ones could be acquired.

The Oldenburg OR’s is the only piece I am a bit skeptical about, but given that it came as part of the group of four and three of them I have no concerns about, I’m inclined to think it’s a good one. It appears (in hand) as a very dark blue on the obverse. The reverse is a lighter shade which may be the result of many years being sheltered from the elements.

Opinions welcomed.

I'm sorry, but I don't see an Oldenburg kokarde there... only a Bavarian, and Wurttemberg one next to the 2 Prussian kokarden.
All look nice to me though.

Coert:

I'm not surprised.

The 2nd from the left is the Oldenburg. It's dark enough on the front surface to almost appear black but, in hand it's a dark blue.

Thanks for your input.

Where there any other members at the show?
Did you or someone else take any photos?
Did you see anything interesting there
that you didn't buy?
Thanks
Steve

I suspect that I was the only member at this show which was good for me. There were a couple of dealers hovering around but it's not too hard to out bid them when competing for items.

The Ottawa show was originally stared by two collector friend and myself.

It's a small show at only around 160 tables but it attracts dealers/collectors from Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec so basically Kingston to Montreal area. It's always an interesting show as it covers a lot of ground collecting wise as you'll find Boer War items, Great War stuff British/Canadian/French and German as well as WW II items both Allied and German.

Not surprisingly, the natural focus here is on Canadian/British and German items.

I didn't think to take any photos.

There were other items to be had such as German Steel helmets and a few Pickelhaubes of the M15 variety. I have all the examples I'm looking for in those areas.

Steve, you had a great day, congrats, local shows can pay off from time to time!!!

Especially when you're the only guy in the room that understands what he's looking at. The seller got them as part of an estate lot and had the same price on each of them. Oldenburg - Prussia, same price.

Hello Steve,
The matrix (stamp) of the roundels is 0K. They are not copies or reproductions. I assume that the Bavarian is nickel silver and does not magnetize (non-ferrous metal).
Only the blue color of the 0ldenburg does not conform. It should be “medium” blue, not “night” blue.
