A Prussian Garde Kurassier helmet of the 1889 vintage. In the same condition as when found, many years ago, in a NY state family. I have not modified it in any way. There are no dents in the shell, although the helmet is in well-worn condition and has certainly seen a lot of use, as is the case for many of these, born 25 years before WW1 and worn for long periods of time. Everything is authentic on this helmet. There are also some flaws. The chin scale strap and buckle are missing. Two of the screws attaching the eagle to the plate are also missing. The 11-tongue liner is missing three of those “tongues”. The butterfly nut that normally fastens the eagle on the shell has been replaced by a big square nut.
