GM17 Ledermaske.

Kaiser Wilhelm II

Hello again.
Today I again attended the annual Militaria show in Mansfield Ohio, the only show I currently am able to visit each year, and it has produced yet another lovely item for my collection.
The German GM17 mask is a piece which I have been hesitant to purchase for some time due to what I feel are unnecessarily high market prices, however I have finally found a suitable example for a price which I fancied. As such here is my prize. The condition of the mask is quite good and I am pleased. I can easily forgive the absence of the strap on the carrying cannister. The Filter is dated 19 May 1918. I now only must prepare a proper display.

I barely trusted my gas mask for the tear gas we used for training. Of course, my modern one worked just fine, but I wonder how the soldiers then felt about something so new...

Great piece.

Congratulations, Hayden, on a great find! I've never yet attended this military show in Mansfield, OH.

Do you know about the upcoming O.V.M.S. "Cornfield" show in Wilmington, Ohio, on June 5th & 6th, in Wilmington, Ohio, at the Roberts Center? It's a nice show, with 500 tables. I will be set up there. It's put on by the same group that puts on the much larger Show of Shows (S.O.S.), in Louisville, each year. There are some dealers that come to the Wilmington show, who do not set up at the S.O.S.

Best Wishes,

Alan

I am very familiar with this show, and I would love to attend soon, however at the moment, its just a bit out of my reach, and is something I will probably start attending when I become a bit more stable in life and advanced in collecting.

Thank you anyhow for the tip.

Congratulations on your prized find, it's always nice to see a collector who's sticking to a budget find something nice at a price that works for them. (y)(y)
