helmet WW1 model 16; me doubts

It’s a complete fake, they come from Latvia. He goes by boddoer, spanmil, ssovetsk, and others. Bad guy. I even shy against saying why since he will modify his helmets to make them even more realistic based on critiques…

Unfortunately, it makes me avoid buying from that part of the world as a general rule.

Great post and exactly how I feel, if we think they are not constantly upping their game by the feedback they receive from here and other collectors' forums we are sadly mistaken.

I just wish people would stop buying fakes and putting them into the collector market, which will only hurt future collectors over and over again.

This Ebay helmet would certainly fool me, I won't comment on the camouflage or the liner, but I don't see red flags with the underlying shell.

The warhats Stahlhelm looks very different, with the very long "duckbeak" visor, that one I can recognise :) .

The shell is real then they go through the falsifying process step by step to create these fakes. Years and years of doing this and one day they will get it right. Rob

hello, I spoke to him and told me that it was good, and I told him what was not good about it, then he was silent, that was what he wrote to me
Hello, I check it best I can and it looks good and OK, I'm sure that it is authentic.Kind regards,Alex.

The guy is a total well known scammer. If someone buys from him at this point, then they deserve to get scammed as punishment for not doing any research.

I would never give him feedback on why his stuff is fake. It will only help him.

I am very careful when purchasing, although I have already left beautiful things aside that I do not trust, but I would rather have money in my pockets than fake ones on my cupboard.

This trafficker has been perfectly identified for several years on French forums. It has to be said that these ‘masterpieces’ are remarkable ... for historical re-enactments and ceremonies. Objects unsuitable for museums or collectors.

Telling a faker how you can tell his items are fake is like the Treasury Dept contacting a counterfeiter and telling them how to improve their counterfeit money.

Best to just stay away, sadly with being hidden behind online auctions there is no justice. If they were set up at shows word of mouth would put them out of business.

Any successful dealer is only so because of their well-deserved reputation.

There are other "dealers" from the Ukraine who somehow find WWI Camo Helmets weekly. Buyers beware ☠️💀

LOL. I didn't get scammed even though I bought from him. I have a great collection of ww1 camo helmets. I wanted to learn what the red flags. I bought two from Alex and he assured me they are original. Well only the shells are original. The paintwork really look original at first look. The liner are even manufacturers stamped and size stamped. All look good but careful look, one will see many red flags.

I have seen Alex's liners in some original helmets selling as original and did get the original prices too.

I had seen Alex's 'original ' camo helmets in auction house and they are being assessed as original and sold at original high prices.

So folks do take note that these fakes are already in many original collections.

Hi Amy, just to clarify, I do agree that he does a really good job with faking them. He uses fake and real shells with fake paint. I'm not confident that I would be able to tell at this point if I saw one in the wild. Its really scary actually. My main assertion is that he as infamous individual should not be considered a reputable seller for anything as its likely unoriginal. As mentioned, its made its way into so many collections...

I am almost certain that many of his works (fakes) are in private collections, if these helmets were sold at fairs here in Europe, where some halls open early with poor lighting, I am sure there would be buyers, damn it is very well done

There is no doubt they are in collections around the world, also watch out for chinstraps and liners which there seems and endless supply coming from eastern Europe.

Always check their other listings for sale, normally you will find other "ground dug relics".

Which by the way is one of the fakers' greatest ways to speed age items especially all those liners and chinstraps.(n)

Yes, I've made ‘guide’ posts about fake chinstraps and roundels on French forums.
These items are sold in new condition, as reproductions at related prices. Unfortunately, some speculators artificially age them with salts or acids, then resell them as authentic, ... at a high profit.
