Hermann November

When we visited Vornholz, the guide said they wanted to rehouse the collection in one of the former stables. Fact, or hearsay shared with him, I don't know, but the collection was impressive and beautiful.

After roughly 5 months since the auction my items finally arrived. The entire shipment was held up by an unfortunate miscommunication between HH and the shipper they chose with respect to export permits and then German customs researching if one of my items was of “cultural significance” and therefore could not be exported. 3+ months after that the item was finally cleared and the crate could be shipped to northwestern Canada. It arrived yesterday afternoon.

I had promised that I’d post a few items once the items arrived which I aim to do but it’ll take me the better part of the weekend and into next week to get it all tastefully displayed.

I am just happy it arrived finally!

First couple items setup - still need to get my friend to modify the display forms with the helmet stands as my others have and the displays are not in their final places yet but you get an idea.

Today I setup the KR6 Officers Koller and the LKR1 Officers Küraß (helmets are from my collection). I had to cut down the polystyrene forms to fit properly which is a lot of work. Tomorrow I will be working on the KR8 and the GdK Kollers. Finally the GKR and LKR1 NCO ensembles will be done last. Oh and the helmets I won at the auction of course are out.

I know the enamel is not perfect but it is so hard to find I will make do. Steve M was looking forward to seeing pics when it arrived, sadly that will not happen.

Here are the helmets that arrived in the crate, the GKR to parade and LKR1 of course go with the uniform ensembles. Thanks to my good friend Tony S for all his assistance in previewing the items up for this auction with me.

Here is the KR2 M1842 with the early pattern bandeau around the front circumference of the helmet and feather bolts for the wappen along with a KR2 Officers Ringkragen on display from the auction as well.

I’ll post more up as I get them set up.

Thank you for all the kind words.

I set up the LKR1 and GKR NCO’s ensembles and the GdK Colonel Koller today. All went well until the leather belt on the black GdK parade cuirass snapped at a buckle hole that had leather rot. I’ll leave it as is for now, not much else I can do. Otherwise all good. (Note the black GdK parade cuirass and GdK helmet came from Karel’s collection, not this auction. Same with the SGR NCO Koller and helmet, the SGR Officer I’ve had for awhile).

The KR2 helmet and ringkragen needs to go on a tombac cuirass which I’ll search out and when I find a nice one I will put the KR8 officer Koller under the silver cuirass with my nice line officer Cuirassier metalhelm. Otherwise I’ll leave the KR8 hanging in a storage closet until such a time I can set it up.

I didn’t do the belt up on the LKR1 as it was tight and didn’t want the same thing to happen!

Otherwise looks ok, not too crowded I hope? My friend is making the helmet stands for the new torso forms so all helmets will be the same height when completed so I’ll have to reign in my OCD until they are done!

I will post more pics of the rest of my collection in the coming days in the collection thread.

But I am finally glad the 5 month saga waiting for this crate is over and all arrived safe and sound.

Cheers
Doug
