Hermann November

Thank you for all the kind words.

I set up the LKR1 and GKR NCO’s ensembles and the GdK Colonel Koller today. All went well until the leather belt on the black GdK parade cuirass snapped at a buckle hole that had leather rot. I’ll leave it as is for now, not much else I can do. Otherwise all good. (Note the black GdK parade cuirass and GdK helmet came from Karel’s collection, not this auction. Same with the SGR NCO Koller and helmet, the SGR Officer I’ve had for awhile).

The KR2 helmet and ringkragen needs to go on a tombac cuirass which I’ll search out and when I find a nice one I will put the KR8 officer Koller under the silver cuirass with my nice line officer Cuirassier metalhelm. Otherwise I’ll leave the KR8 hanging in a storage closet until such a time I can set it up.

I didn’t do the belt up on the LKR1 as it was tight and didn’t want the same thing to happen!

Otherwise looks ok, not too crowded I hope? My friend is making the helmet stands for the new torso forms so all helmets will be the same height when completed so I’ll have to reign in my OCD until they are done!

I will post more pics of the rest of my collection in the coming days in the collection thread.

But I am finally glad the 5 month saga waiting for this crate is over and all arrived safe and sound.

Cheers
Doug

Wow, what a beautiful collection, beginners can only rub their eyes at what they see, this is almost impossible to get together now, certainly not, supper collection and that across the pond

Stunning. Congratulations. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the kind words everyone, @Gunner who? I will put a thread together in the Collections forum once I get these displays fully complete. I am getting the helmet stands for the forms made and they should be ready next week. I would like to show the rest of the helmets I have in my displays which I have not posted as of yet. I had posted earlier in this thread that I would show what I picked up from the Vornholz Kavelleriemusuem auction at Hermann Historica and after 5 looooooooooooong agonizing months the crate of fun finally arrived!

These are the helmet stands my friend customizes for anyone wondering what I was referring to. He just finished these today modifying the toppers the forms come with.

The helmets then sit at proper head height and are stable / cannot fall off the torso forms if accidentally bumped. They are glued in as well.

So you get a nice height to the helmet without it resting on the form and uniform or küraß underneath.

I thought I’d show them if anyone wanted to replicate them.

Honestly, I think you can be proud, and that your heart started beating faster when you went to open the box; that's really great for you. My mouth is watering at the sight of your pieces.

Looks good Doug. Is there any particular model form that you use? I am looking for one right now.

Thanks Bob, I use torsos from a company here in western Canada called Eddies. I have seen the same ones for sale online in US retail display stores.

They make a long and short torso, I have switched the torsos to short forms for displaying just a küraß as it looks better. They are made from polystyrene and I use an electric turkey carving knife with the 2 reciprocating blades to trim them down for smaller tunics.

They used to make a teenager sized one which was perfect but they have been discontinued. I used to have about a dozen of them when I collected WW2 German but sold them all when I got out of Militaria over a decade ago. Should have kept them!
