I don't know much about these so I would appreciate your opinions:

The chinscales seem to be too wide for this Tschapka, but Model 1867's did have wider scales.
The Kokarde seems too small for the period, and it's Prussian. I thought this would have a Prussian Feldzeichen and a national Kokarde (after 1897).
The visor trim also seems awfully wide.
What do you think?

Textbook M1867 Tschapka. Heavy and gorgeous. And it sold for half its value. Hopefully you went for it.

Textbook M1867 Tschapka. Heavy and gorgeous. And it sold for half its value. Hopefully you went for it.

Honestly I thought that it was a very nice piece, and I do not have a Tschapka in my collection.
It is likely that I was overly concerned with the cost of parts, if I could find them. I would have needed a large, screw post, type rosette, which may not have been difficult. I would also need an original Feldzeichen and a Fangschnurr. The Feldzeichen may not have been hard to find, but a Fangschnurr probably would have been. The hardest thing to find would have been the toggle that the Fangschnurr fastened to. Where on earth would I find an original one of those?
I also noticed that one of the chin scales was marked "LG". The only time I have seen that mark was on Landes Gendarmerie helmets, so maybe it was a replacement.
I'll keep looking.

I forgot to mention --- by pointing out everything that I could possibly find wrong with it, I somehow feel a little better about not getting it!
It went from $900 to $1325 in two seconds. Typical Ebay.
 
Some where in my parts collection I have a screw post (used it to keep cockades on). For years I always thought that it was just a bolt someone used on a helmet.
