KR6 Officers helmet

Good Evening Gentlemen,

I wanted to get everyone's opinions on this kurassiers helmet that I picked up recently, it's is my first time buying a helmet of this style online, I typically try to get items like this in hand first but I decided to take a risk this time around, there are not alot of examples that I was able to find to compare it too but going off of what resources and sketches I could find of officers helmets from this unit i do believe everything is correct. I would love the opinions from the experts here.

Many Thanks,
Will

The only potential issue I had seen was that the spike for this regiment should be Tombak like the shell. However everything else seems to line up.

Hello,
Warning: Always bear in mind that there are fearsome reproductions. New they are identifiable, but once falsified, patinated, oxidised and dirtied...
Then there are the details, the lobster tail with an unharmonious curve, the visor not angular enough, the eagle without the Vaterland-Bandeau etc...
To identify a copy, it is essential to have seen a genuine one. Indian’ copies are easy to recognise, which is not the case for Polish or Ukrainian reproductions. I hope you didn't pay too much for it.

So with this one you think the tail and visor are incorrect for period pieces? Is the leather on the inside a red flag as well?

I don't like this I'm sorry to say.

The rear neck guard is too angular, It lacks the gentle curve that it should have. The spike tip should be in the same colour as the shell. The Wappen has no bandeau and the space between the eagle's wings and the legs should not be voided.

Someone has gone to great lengths to make it appear old, but the basic workmanship gives the game away.

Well it's a good thing he has a return policy haha I should have known better than to dip into unfamiliar helmets without having them in hand. But lesson learned.

I was watching this one as well, I'm really happy you'll be able to return it and get a full refund. (y)

It really is amazing how much effort is put into aging items to deceive collectors, really scary.

I bid on it early doors but I didnt like the finish to the metal or the spike. Looks like someone painted some darkening agent over it. Rob

Well I haven't talked to the seller just yet, I'm waiting to have it in hand before I start the refund process since I think that's a rule, or at least expected that it's viewed in hand before asking for money back. But the sellers profile says you have 14 days to return the item.

You just have to be careful. I once return a helmet to the seller, the seller refused to pick it up at local Post office and the rule in that country is to destroy parcel after 180 days, not returning it to the sender.
I lost the money and the good. I cannot remember the country now. Will check and update

Hey guys I'm normally a sword guy so maybe I'm wrong but isn't anyone going to comment about that thick cast wappen? That was the first thing I noticed as well as the badly scalloped sweatband. Besides the front and rear visors mishaped and the whole thing looking brand new. If you wore it for a few hours on a summer day the liner would probably look the same with sweat. Aging and shrinking leather takes very little effort. It appears as if the person attempting to age the exterior didn't realize there was a shellac on the brass and tried to wipe a vinegar/salt solution all over it without using acetone first. As mentioned Spikehelmets pl is an excellent reference if you don't know how detailed the repro parts can be. Stamped size numbers are easily replicated. Their officer spikes are phenomenal. I don't think I'd ever buy an officer helmet from eBay for that reason although they always have the money back guarantee no matter what the seller policy. That's what makes eBay unique amongst auction platforms. They will freeze the seller's account if they don't willingly refund.
The seller in this case seems to be a one time estate reseller. I was watching with fascination, like the Amazon bought confederate sword that repeatedly sells for many hundreds and is blatantly fake. A bit of shadenfreude I admit.
Confirmation bias is a very dangerous phenomenon and there has been a huge uptick in fakery on ebay since COVID created a new world of side hustlers and a new collecting base interested in alternative investments. Be forewarned, ignorance is contagious and spreading like wildfire! Cheers

Here are some shots of details that were not included in the listing such as close ups of some of the stamps and the attachment hardware of the spike. Now to initiate the return and hope that all goes well.
