Look who is coming to visit me

Just kidding!
Saw these in the local newspaper.
For those who don't know him, he is a Belgian dealer /collector. Allways present at the fair in Wavre and probably many others too, but I only attented that particular fair, mostly.
He started some time ago a auction buisiness, and I think he is doing pretty well.
He sold last year (or the year before....) one of the greatest (old!) Belgian WWII collections; the collection of JP Chantrain.
And he is having some (free) evaluation sessions in two city's near the place where I settled down.

Made a big descision, concerning this visit!
I made appointement with the guy, and he is coming to see me during his staying in the region.
In order to talk to sale off the (nearly!) entirely militaria collection (WWI and WWII).
I might keep two helmets (and 3 blades), and the medieval helmets, too.

Definitely not easy to make such a descision Kris.
Wish you good luck.

A big decision indeed Kris. I did the same earlier this year and don't regret it. All the big money items have gone, I kept only the things I love to see every day - and the happy memories of a lot of others. Let the next generation enjoy them, if they do I will be happy. Good luck, Steve

Hi Kris,

Very surprised to see that you are considering selling your WWI and II Militaria collection. Is the reason for your decision to sell something you could share, I guess it's something every one of us considers at some point and I'm always curious what goes into the thoughts of others.

The main reason is; I can't find a descent inssurance, over here.
The place where I live is very vulnerable....
Every time I leave the house, I secured the collection in a "safe" place . Getting it back is like Christmas every time. But it takes a lot of efforts every time... packing and und packing....
"The Louvre robbery "made it clear to me....:giggle:....nothing is safe ....anymore!

Kris, I must say I'm very sad to see you selling. My stomach flipped at the very sight of seeing an auctioneer touching your collection.

I now can only wish that you will get TOP MONEY for everything you put up for sale.

MFG John Josef

Can't tell you what it does to me....
But it is the best solution, just hoping, that afterwards the money would be safe at the bank,....

Last week I witnessed a fire to a house, when we were aware of the problem the flames all ready went thru the roof, and in less then 15 minutes the whole roof of a quiet great old building, collapsed.
The guy was left with nothing but the cloths he had on him and his four dogs.
This and the fact that buglary, seems to become a fashion, where I live; made me do this.
Last week a house was visited and set at fire to erase all proofs.
On sunday friends of me came home finding the doors of both houses they own smashed with a ram and lutted.
All ready had 3 uninvited visitors in a second house I own.
And all this, just in the small little (quiet!)village where I setlled down....

So I think that the "signs of times" are clear to me....

Hello Kris,
I understand. Here in France, it's chaos, political anarchy, general insecurity, economic collapse... Nationalism and patriotism mean nothing to anarchists, traffickers, murderers, rapists, thieves... All that's missing now is war with Putin!!!
It does indeed feel like we are at war....and nothing to do with Russia....

Do you want to know what is a bad start of 2026....
That is;
- having having covid for more then 3 weeks, now.
- having your neighbour coming over to ask if you want a part of a wild boar, freshly killed, but having the freezer still filled, due to the sikness that started at Xmas.
-And all this right in the middle of having people in the "bunker " coming to empty it...
Going to sleep now and hope for a better "tomorrow"....
