I picked one of these up a year or 2 back as they were being sold as movie props from the 20's to 30's. Let to rust and set away for years and then a flat black ( recent ) respray and the little ( wrong ) issue stamp on the under side of the visor. They are great for show table toppers or to fill a display case and complete a uniform for less then a few grand but now see how someones passing them off as??? Shame :-x

Another untouched, original hat. Good news, this one is also "nice"! We are lucky.
Welcome, Alanike.

No offense to those of you that are not gentlemen of course, lol I am living in Cetral TX, close to Fort Hood as I am retired military and my dear wife is still serving. I have a few of the repro, copy, museum quality peices that would normally run of course thousands ( if real ) in my collection. I have always shown them to many folks as possible and they fondled them quite well getting to know what to look for or not. Few of us have had a chance to look at the real ones and who of you would hand over your favorite Spike for a good groping? If they at least can compare them maybe they wont get " turned off" collecting in a oppps sorry buddy but you got burned on that $ 1,000 peice. Its whats happened to the III reich feild. I started collecting in the early 80's while living in germany. Wonderful items where I had to be approved by Oma to even buy certain items from the family. They would give up the items / hardware but it was hard to get even copies of the paperwork / photos since from what they told me " pensions to the survivors were based upon these proof of records of service". Anyways I babble on, Thanks for all the input placed here, its well read if even seldom comented on. I am what I feel to be a small colletor but love the history thats kept alive in collecting and I enjoy the Imperial Periods, " days of the Kings and Kaisers" which is a rarer feild in my opinion. Also I have enjoyed the pics posted here, cant get enough of those for sure so thanks to those of you for sharing those and taking the time to shoot that right / best shot. Ok Ill return to the board and try to keep my big one shut and my eyes open guys. :D

My wife and I are both retired. I did seven years at Fort Hood. I used to be what they called a cavalry sandwich. There was a nice get-together a little while ago in San Antonio for some of the helmet collectors. Maybe we should do that again soon. good to have you on board!

Welcome Al...quite a number of Texans on the forum. Good to hear that you are enjoying the site. I think most of us here are life long learners so you will fit in quite well! All the best, Brian

SA eh...Thats just a "starting to yawn so get out and stretch" drive away so anytime you guys do a SA group meet again drop me a note and Ill head south to meet you. Speaking of Close and Texas.....any militaria related shows close by? Been to your site and great job Col J.

Good question but I do not know of any. The guys from Minnesota go to all sorts of shows. I have been to the one in San Antonio but it has nothing for helmets.

I will put another plug-in for SOS. That is the one show that I attend religiously. The social aspect is far more important than the articles, however, last year we found a whole bunch. If I was to make one trip that would be it.

We might have to have another get-together this winter. Perhaps even round up some helmets for sale at SOS. There are a couple of serious collectors down here that do not participate at SOS or in the forum. I will think about it after we get back from this World War I symposium in Kansas City. Great idea but not so easy to put together.

Hey Alan,
I know that Joe touched on SOS, but it is the best show and it is close to Texas, Joe seems to think that Texas is a big state, but I drove clear across it in two hours once. I have a cousin who lives in Texas, he brags about how big his place is, that it takes him three days to drive arond it, heck I have a pickup that runs that bad too.
The best thing about SOS is that collectors from all over the world meet there, and it is the best party (watch out for the Minnesota bunch, as you might wake up with a tatoo that you did not remember getting)
Best
Gus

Yea T probably Gus was packin one of his grenades again...even the Texans frown on that kind of hardware! B

Being chased by State Troopers?

Hey Tony,
In spite of my being caught entering Canada with a grenade in my jockeybox, I do try to comply with all state and federal laws. It actually turns out that I could have kept the grenade, I just did not want to get caught going back in to the US, as I did not think I would encounter such professional boarder guards as I did going into Canada, besides, how many grenade collectors have a document from the Canadian government saying that they have confinscated a grenade?

No we unfortunately sell or ship this kind of stuff to Mexico. That poor country is a basket case.

The real scary thing is that they want us to adopt the same system [p;sxfrdesystemkokokokokokokokokokokoko l 1111
OK, I got the cat off the keyboard
