My first pickelhaube. NCO?

This is his story... I don't know what to believe anymore, how can I know for sure JR15 is a normal infantery and not Garde?

It's true that helmets were often reused.
But if they were re-issued, they had to bear the stamp of the regiment in question.
In this case, the Guard...and this helmet doesn't have that.

This helmet was simply cobbled together.
An infantry helmet, a Guard plate, a fake chin strap, a fake cockade, and off you go!

Don't get me wrong, it's a very complex subject, and thankfully, there's a lot of knowledge on this forum.
I'm afraid you, as a novice, have fallen into the hands of someone who doesn't know how things should be and is just making things up and telling half-truths to sell his helmets.

I don't mean it in a bad way, but I know several people who assemble helmets and then cheat novice collectors with them.
That makes me furious.

Thanks a lot for your time and explanations... Seems very difficult to know for sure when its an original, without the JR15 inside, would you be able to tell? Because I saw similar helmets online where the seller didn't upload any pictures of the stamp inside.

And could you maybe share where you got the information from that JR15 doesnt have guards? Would like to have as much information as possible to show

Jerry: Basically, you need to do some research and learn about these helmets before shelling out cash. We have a section here on the forum where good reference books are listed. We also have the creator of the best English language pickelhaube reference site here as a member. His site is: The Kaiser’s Bunker. Look that up on the net and start learning. In addition, keep asking questions on the forum and post photos here of anything that you are interested in buying. We have saved members thousands $ and stopped them from being suckered by some seller’s stories.

I would also encourage members who use Tony’s Bunker website to make a donation to help offset his costs. Thousands of hours were spent on creating it and it is the best reference source for all pickelhaube collectors that I know of.

But most pickelhaubes I see online dont show the stamp inside so that makes it almost impossible to know if its a composed one or not, right?

Jerry, officer helmets are mostly never stamped, as they were private purchased ones. You can however find a makers mark in them, such as Awes marke for instance.

And to make it even more complicated, there were regiments who were wearing the Garde frontplate, but those were the Eisenbahn regiments.
And only these, as they were Gardemuster. So not real Garde regiments, but were given the Gardemuster. So elligible to wear the Gardeplate.
I have one in my collection, marked ER2, so Eisenbahn regiment #2, it is also an M15 by the way.

As Coert wrote , all of the helmets that you show are officers and they will NOT have the regiment stamp in them. Weitze is a well known dealer. Age of Kings is run by 2 collectors. IMO they can 100 % be trusted. I think that I would buy my first helmet form them. You will get good photos with a complete honest description. If you have questions about their helmet , email them and tell them what you are looking for.
