My Great-Great-Grandfather Wilhelm Wagner c1880

Hey, so it's been two years but I have found important pieces of information. I now know that Wilhelm Friedrich Wagner was born November 15, 1861 in Mutterstadt near Ludwigshafen in the Palatinate of Bavaria. As for which Ulan regiment he would've belonged to, I still can't tell. Are there any next steps for trying to track down his military record? Any databases I should be made aware of?

Great! My great-grandfather served in UR 2 and there in Ansbach he met his future wife, my great-grandmother 😃👍

Unfortunately my grandmother threw away his uniform in the 1950s. After WW 2 she wanted no longer to keep his old stuff. Later she apologized to me and said that she never had imagined that her grandson would be interested in it one day...

Best wishes,

GardeUlan

Heart breaking, Garde Ulan. Was the Tschapka included?

Thank you very much for asking, unfortunately no — although, in a certain sense, I do have a Tschapka from Ansbach that belonged to my great-grandfather. 😀

Best wishes,

But I am very glad that some of his medals and decorations from the First World War survived, because my father took them. Among them was also the bullet that struck my great-grandfather in the lung and was only removed years after the war. It reminds me of what war is really all about.

Best wishes,
