newspaper laying between the helmet shell and the liner

Didn't want to interfere in that other threat where this matter was discussed!
So here I go with my story!
Got a artillery pickel coming from the same house clearing but from a different source.
At first I got a British War Medal 1914-20, named to a women, who originated from Antwerp. She happened to be a agent during the war.
So I am assuming it was here (or a relative) house that was cleared. But no evidence.
And a week later I got this pickelhaube holding a Dutch newspaper telling a spy story near Antwerp....
And I found out it came from the same house as the medal did.
Makes me think they got even, after the war and held the helmet for souvenir. But again no evidence....



 
That newspaper is in pretty good shape. The newspaper that I mentioned in the other thread was very dark brown, very fragile, and turned to dust when touched. What is the date on the newspaper in your helmet?

In fact I don't know where it is for the moment...but I seem to remember that there wasn't any date on it...

One can clearly read a few times "December" or "décembre", one time the year "1916" and one time "20 December" :wink:

I once owned a fire officer helmet that had the same type of newspaper “filler” to give a custom fit to the helmet. The helmet had a Rhineland wappen on it with silver fittings but unfortunately no date on the paper.
