Hi ! I wonder if there is a roster or manifest of officers serving in KAGGR no. 1 ? Mitre I have has scratched in name on the inside of the plate, It says V Barby... then number 3 under that.. and then ...barby again. I know that Von Barby is a noble Prussian family (including a general Von Barby), maybe there is a connection ?

and I have seen list of offices of the Garde regiments with where they lived .

Thank You Steve !
I was able to locate unit history book from 1889:

but no luck looking for V. Barby there

I was finally able to take some better pictures of the name scratched on the mitre plate. You can see twice number 3 and V.Barby. hope my pictures will post here

Hi,
the "von Barby in the Garde-Fueselier.-Rgt.)" listed in the 1897 rank list must be Wilhelm Adalbert Claus von Barby (*15 Jan 1866 in Breslau, † 14 Nov 1925 in Dessau), who apparently always was in the GFR * and probably never in the KAGGR#1 (* later as a reserve officer/Hauptmann a. D., etc. ...).
Best regards, Jens

Thank You all for contributing to this thread.
Looks like V.Barby I am looking at (same guy that Jens found) was with GFR until 1904 (promoted Hauptmann in 1901), then in 1905 he is in GGR 5. By 1907 he is no longer on the lists.
Can Anyone make any sense out of this ? why his name would be inside this miter helmet ?

here is rangliste 1904 with GFR and 1905 with GGR5

Hi, in my opinion, these are two different “von Barby” (different ranks, promotion dates, and awards ...).
Best regards, Jens

Indeed,

Wilhelm von Barby of the GFR

and

Friedrich von Barby of GGR 5

incidentally, Friedrich von Barby was originally commissioned into the 1. GRzF in 1883. I cannot, however ascertain from your photographs if a "Semper Talis" Band was ever there.

Regards
Glenn

That is some great info Glenn ! I will look closely at the plate. What to look for ?

You would see holes in the front where the banner was placed.
The enlisted man miter had the holes plugged
That is very easy to spot
In no way do I see that there was a banner ever on this miter
