Was this really in the Kaiser's Bunker collection at one time?
It still seems to be on the Collector's Guild site, too. http://www.germanmilitaria.com/imperial/photos/G011266.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Who cares? I know a few collectors down here have left this forum as they are tired of you being the ebay Police. I think I am not far behind.

The seller is the Collectors Guild, that is their Ebay user ID.

WWI Collector, if you have a problem with the posting of Ebay listings, in the Ebay section of the forum, do not read that part of the forum...

Why lash out at other collectors?

James

Exactly....why the aggression WW1? The Ebay section was created to help collectors especially new ones from wasting money on bogus items. Whats the big deal? You want fakers to dupe people into buying their crap?? I know a certain primo collector who has purposely bought fake skull wappen from JR 92 so that he knows what to look for. As far as collectors leaving this forum as a result of our "Ebay" section....I could give a flying FK. Go somewhere else. This forum operates as a means by which people who collect in this era/area of History can share and support one another, unlike other forums, we are not into BS, life is too short. My thanks to James for his moderation here.

The ebay section was very important to me when I was a new newbie. Now, just a few years later, as an older newbie, it is still important to me as a place where fakes are discussed - a problem which seems to be getting worse, not better.

We all have bad days (or weeks) and perhaps WWI Collector is having one.

I think ebeeby hit the nail on the head. I have been saved from bidding on faked haubes a number of times thanks to this section. Another pair of eyes is always helpful. :D

There is always strength in numbers gentlemen as we all know, especially our valued ex military members who have seen the beast. We are a small group of collectors world wide, specializing in a very defined area of History, and there is a great deal of money involved in some of these pieces. We have to protect ourselves as much as possible. This applies as much to a first purchase Prussian M15.....M95 or to a JR 92 officer helme. We have to take care of ourselves.

People don’t realize how lucky they are with the internet and all the information available.
Everything I know I had to discover on my own, and other collectors were no help …on the contrary !

Your PM to me on Tue Jul 15, 2014 7:13 am also seemed like a "pickelhaube police" message!!
Don't get me wrong! I did appreciate your message regarding that matter.
To me it seems that it isn't just the forum that you are about to leave, but the hobby in it self!
I think the people here do a good job!

I think that anyone objecting to the "ebay police" would be the ones trying to fob bad goods. This forum started years ago, and the part that really got it going was the ebay forum. This has been the back bone of the group, and it is one way for the oldtimers to aid the newbys by passing on their knowledge. I think that the oldtimers often learn as much as the newbys, as the reproduction industry is a fluid thing, and better fakes are turning up as "attic finds" or "Vet bring backs". Often it is not the current seller that is the crock, but they were suckered into buying the story with out knowing what the item really was. The main purpose of this forum is to educate and Pointystuff's posts are the foundation of that.

This is one of the first threads I look at. Sometimes, the items posted are obvious fakes (and have comic value), sometimes obvious replicas (and listed as such from honest and knowledgeable dealers). Other times, discussion is useful to spot fakes and perhaps saves a member some cash. Anywhere, such as ebay or even dealer sites, it's good to be able to come to the experts here, the 'Police', who have collected for years and even written the books on collecting and history. I hope that by learning from them, I can be more expert myself. What I really l like is that nobody complains about my spelling!

I hope you don't leave the forum!

:D Ron

Ron,
We do not say anything about your spelling because you are from Wisconsin. But do not feel bad, at least you are not from Minnesota or Canada.

LOL, Thanks! (sometimes I wish I was in Minnesota or Canada!)

I love this section of the forum. Mostly to have a good laugh about the fakes from India or to learn stuff about haubes that can't be found in reference books.

Well, most all you Yankees from the states north of the Mason Dickson line wish you were part of Canada. Unfortunately, you can't bring your guns/national debt with you and in the Gusmeister's case his guns AND grenades :D !!

This is an old photo, I suspect that I will not be joining Canada any time soon.

I think there are 10 more since that was taken, and then there are the handguns and rifles and this is probably on the banned list as well.
