Seebatallion shako

Good Afternoon Gentlemen,

I recently picked up this seebatallion shako and wanted to share it here. The markings are unfortunately fairly hard to read but the shako itself is in pretty good shape, I do believe its an earlier model given the fact that the wappen is secured by screw posts with an older style of nuts as opposed to loops and it seems like the visors have the extra leather added over them as seen on the M1888 shakos. As always thoughts and opinions are always welcome.

Many Thanks
USN

Am I correct in my assessment thats it's a transitional piece from the m1888? Also can anyone decipher that top mark?

I believe the chinstrap to be new made and I'm little less sure but with just looking at the pictures the cocade may also not be right.

I almost bid on this one myself, but I just didn't have enough time make a comfortable decision by the time I saw the listing it was ending too soon.

Congratulations, really happy you like it. (y)(y)

The chinstrap is old hardware with new leather and the cockade while original does not belong to the helmet. I think I made out pretty good on this one.

Great shako! I'm curious about the size of the eagle plate. It looks a bit smaller than the later version. Can you give the dimensions?

I am unfortunately on deployment and not near my collection but I will try to remember once I'm home.
