Offered for sale is an attractive, nice condition original WW1 era Imperial German Kriegsflag.

Size is approximately 3' Wide X 5' Long. It measures about 39" x 62".

Colors are still bright. There are a few scattered small moth holes as is to be expected, but nothing significant or distracting.

Halyard has uncut rope on one end, and uncut loop is intact on the other end. No markings on halyard.

Full disclosure: flag was found torn in upper quadrant area, right next to the halyard. The fabric in the area of the Maltese Cross with the black/white/red Imperial colors area had been stretched a bit, probably from the fabric having been torn at some time in the past near the halyard area. A professional seamstress repaired that tear by restitching that damaged area where flag was torn at upper halyard area. She used antique period white thread for the restitching, and thus the thread repair work Does Not Glow when exposed to black light testing. Unfortunately, she could not repair the stretching of the fabric from the tearing damage. Thus, we see the ripple or puckering of the fabric in that sewing repair area.

Price: $ plus Postage.

Payment via PayPal is o.k. I prefer "Friends and Family"

Thanks for your nice comment here, James, I appreciate it!

The vertical black/white/black stripes in the photo may appear to be distorted (wider in some photos). That's because the flag is not hanging entirely flat against the background when I shot the photos. That's why it creates a bit of an odd look in some of the pictures with that stripe line.

As I mention with the price, I'm open to entertaining offers on it, so don't be shy here!

Best Wishes,

Alan

Could you explain why the "bunching" or "pursing" by the Reichs colors in the upper corner near the EK along the hoist end? Was this an over-stitching repair?

Best Regards,

Personally, I feel that the seamstress could have done a nicer job on the re-stitch. I didn't speak with her. The friend I bought this from commissioned her to fix it. Not sure why she has the extended halyard sticking out below the bottom of flag. I believe that she didn't understand how the flag was supposed to look put back together with the halyard, even when considering the unfortunate stretch of the fabric due to the rip/tear in the upper halyard area. I thought about having my mother try to re-do it, but alas, I don't have any 100-year-old white, non-glow cotton thread for her to try to fix it better with. I believe the puckering would have still existed to some extent, due to the fabric being stretched by the tear damage.
