Beautiful officer’s tschako for Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin Jäger-Bataillon No. 14. Mostly minty with an outstanding Mecklenburg field badge and frosty wappen. Small nick in the fabric near the back (see picture), otherwise no mothing or other cloth damage. Silk liner with stamps from a property house or museum (indecipherable to me). There is a second set of holes behind the wappen that appear never to have been used – possibly where a common line eagle was removed to add the unique Mecklenburg wappen at the time this helmet was purchased (the impressions from the washers are old and deep, and the only impression on the fabric is from the Mecklenburg star). Excellent gilding on the chinscales. Overall a very lovely single-battalion shako that displays beautifully.
