Tellermütze linked to ships

Howdy all, hope everyone is well!

I’m really wanting to add some more tally caps to my collection as they are probably my favorite kind of imperial headgear.

I’m mainly looking for caps that have ship names, for example, SMS Emden, SMS Lützow ETC

I’m interested mainly in the caps with the tally’s but I’d also be open to just the tally’s as well depending on the ship or unit.

Big ones being,

SMS/SMY Hohenzollern
SMS Lützow
SMS Derfflinger
SMS Seeadler
SMS Von Der Tann

Preferably, I’d like them with the caps but I understand that’s a tall order.

Regardless, if anyone has any of these caps or tally’s, please PM me, I’d love to work out a deal!

All the best,

Dane Jensen

I get it.

I like these Kaiserliche Marine Tellermutzen as well. I'm looking for a Matrosen example from a ship that was at Jutland. Quite hard to find Matrosen examples, at least in my experience.

Aye these tally caps can be addicting, I love them!

I really hope you can find the one you’re looking for, sounds like a very cool piece with some stellar history!

Ok, So Tellermütze for a specific ship is very difficult. As these can be combined and changed out. Several sellers will try to inflate the price they can get by putting a Tellermütze that has a more rare Mützenband. Ebay.de can still be a great spot to pick up pieces, although you would likely need to have a European friend to have the items delivered to their address and be willing to send them to you. Paperwork and customs forms are a real inconvenience. Ask anyone who has shipped overseas recently Weitze.net is another great site I frequent. He uses FedEx and his fees are pretty reasonable €35 per flat rate envelope. Wolf, Seeadler,Emden.... There were several ships with this namesake, many sellers will insist they are from the "heldenschiff" and they will reflect that price. Honestly, It would be hard to counter that argument. Derrflinger, Von Der Taan are more common ones as of this time. There is ebb and flow with these coming available. They are fun and a great way to collect the German Navy. I keep my tallies/Mützenbänder in 35mm Film canisters in a fire/flood proof safe. I am currently working on constructing a photo album to layout my collection to better showcase it. Note, the spelling for Kaiserliche Marine will not have the Umlaut so Luetzow vs Lützow. There was no specific rules or regulations stating that they could or couldn't have Umlaut. It was up to the manufacturer. For Kaiserliche Marine, almost all period examples would have the no umlaut spelling.

Another point I wanted to say is that this is a still very affordable collecting space. Surprisingly, many of the more expensive Mützenbänder will be from units that were only in existence for a shortened period of time or had a small cadre of personnel assigned. S.M.S Schamien is a great example. A ship that had only 12 men on it's crew and operated for under 4 years. So, definitely a rare piece. Best of luck in your pursuits.

From the photos shown, I believe this is a period base and tally, however, I am suspicious blue removable top of it being a period Tellermütze from WW1 or pre. This is just my opinion. For the price this seller is asking, I believe this is too high for a piece like this. IMHO. Comparing with another seller with like pieces offered. He is entertaining offers though. So????

Best of luck,

I had a look at this one too. I also thought the top or crown of the Mutze was made from a different material than the rest of the fabric. Although I think it's unlikely that someone has "played" with it. For that kind of money I would want to feel completely comfortable with it which isn't the case here.

Just made a post regarding fake tallies on the thread in the Kaiserliche Marine thread. Check it out.
