Uhlans Leggings?

I had a sales table at the most recent Ottawa Military Heritage Show on April 26th. Towards the end of the show a fellow came up to me and asked me if I knew much about German Uhlan Leggings.

Frankly, I know next to nothing about the Uhlans. So, I told him I knew some people who would know and hence this post.

He then proceeds to take them out of a plastic bag they were sealed in to show me. He tells me that he bought these from a US dealer over ten years ago! For $10.

“And you never took them out of the bag?”

Anyway, I’m thinking that Uhlans would have worn riding boots. Leggings are typically, worn with lace up ankle boots to protect the rider’s calves from chafing. But, again, I know nothing about Uhlans.

Interested in any thoughts.

Alan:

Not the best quality photos I admit. It was near the end of the show and I was more interested in packing up.

I recall that the maker was a Germanic name, but in spite of him showing me his receipt from some US web site, I find it hard to believe that anyone selling on the web through a site would sell anything Imperial German for $9.95.

Thanks for responding.
