Vimy ridge memorial,

Well-known member
yesterday I visited (once again), the beautiful and impressive monument en memorial on vimy ridge,
This spot is one of my favorites on the western front,
Living in the low countries I'm in a privileged position to visit regularly spots on the front because they are relatively nearby.

(as I told you I visit Maissin, Verdun and Reims often as these are even more close to our holiday home)

being in Lille with two brothers and my son for the weekend, I was able to convince them to follow me to Vimy,

The Canadian Army fought a heroic fight and captured the strategic important ridge,
there is a very impressive and beautiful momunemt, but also reconstructed trenches (original ones , reconstructed in the 1930ies ) as well as a visitor center with canadian student as guides, enjoy the Photo's

Both my sons (Canadian Army Reservists) and my two grandsons visited along with my wife and I last summer. It was my second trip.

This monument should be a place of pilgrimage for all Canadians along with Beaumont Hamel for the Newfoundlanders. (Newfoundland wasn't part of Canada until after WW II)

A truly impressive memorial.

Thanks for posting these photos.

Been many times. Did you get to tour the subway? I did tours when you got a much more complete tour of the subways including the unexploded ordnance. The new one is much shorter and not as complete. Fantastic site and holy ground for Canadians.
