What am I missing here, repro plate? Too damaged?

To me, this looks like a Prussian infantry officer helmet, Vulcan fiber body, with a lot of cracking and damage. I don't know if Vulcan fiber can be restored, but is there more wrong than I'm seeing? The seller sent me an offer for a percentage off, but I'm not interested in it, just watching it.

Yes, the helmet body is blackened felt, and not vulcan fiber. This is shown in the photo of the interior of the helmet, where the silk liner is parted and it reveals this fact.

The wappen or front plate is original. The spike, base, and the other fittings appear to have all of the mercury fire gilding intact.
