Hello need some advice on how to restore the body of this 1843 officer Kurrasier. You can see that it is/was nickel plated and it’s badly rusted through. Previous owner sanded the body but not the visors. This incongruency leads me to think that it should be polished to match and to read it of the rust and last bit of plating. Any thoughts or ideas on how to proceed be much appreciated
This helmet actually looks really good! If it was my project, I would take a wire wheel to the steel part to get rid of as much rust and any other finishes that have been put on it over the last 170+ years. It looks like there may be a bit of black paint on the visors and spike, which seems normal given what I've dealt with during my restorations. When done, put a nice coat of Renaissance Wax microcrystaline wax on it to protect it.View attachment 25347View attachment 25348View attachment 25349
