UNITED STATES IMPORT EXPORT DEVELOPMENTS

And now Canada Post is on strike again!

They lose hundreds of millions of dollars per year, deliver pretty much nothing but junk mail, but want more money and job security for a failing and fading business model. Honestly they can stay on strike forever. I’m not sure anyone will notice.

I agree, except unfortunately a lot of small businesses and private sellers who only ship by Canada Post in Canada.

There are other options. FedEx, UPS, DHL, numerous smaller couriers, as well as Purolator but they are owned by Canada Post so not sure if they are sympathy striking or not. There’s zero excuse to not ship anything.

I found with my France and Germany purchases the last year or so, that UPS is pretty good, costs about 20 to 25% more then regular post, but usually get within a week or less. And excellent tracking.

This CN post strike has been hanging over our heads for months if not a year! I have had to tell 2 US customers not to send their helmets for fear that their pieces might get held up due to a postal shut down.

Just wanted to share with our Canadian and American friends.

I recently purchased a WWI Helmet from a friend in Canada, and they shipped it UPS to me here in the States.

It took less than a week arrived in perfect condition and best of all no extra Taxes or Tariffs. There was a small Brokerage fee on 10 bucks for handling the import paperwork.

Well worth it in my opinion. If having something shipped, please tell the shipper to mark it WWI which covers the 100-year-old exempt part of import tariffs and duty fees.

Please see below I just covered up specific numbers directly related to this shipment.

Actually Brian you have an incoming helmet sitting right there in Barrie Ontario at the Canada Post Office. And there it will sit.

My post office in singapore requires me to prepay tariffs before shipment can be accepted at post office.

At moment, I am not shipping to USA as yet.

This is a headache for collectors like all of us.

Has anyone had recent experience with shipping a package from the US to the EU?
Anyone been confronted with extra Costa are other kind of problems?

It is the same here in Canada, tariffs are to be prepaid using the Zonos Prepay app before the Post Office accepts them. I sent a friend some headgear stands as a gift but even the $800 De Minimus Exemptions are no longer in force so I paid the tariffs along with the postage. But his headgear collection will look fantastic with my 15 headgear stands from Skip Greenwade that I no longer use now that we have moved.

I do not know what to say, I just mailed some parts to the UK fro0m USA, other than saying what was in the box and putting correct code, I did not have to pay anything extra...

I did that with 3 haubes in my check in luggage and have no issues. From singapore to Melbourne
Interesting — I had issues with the helmet’s spike twice. Security at the airport in Germany wasn’t sure whether it counted as a sharp object. Each time, the police were called, and they then cleared it, but they wanted to know exactly what kind of helmet it was and were always very interested.😃

Best wishes,

GardeUlan

I flew with one in my carry on in Canada few years ago. I made a point of telling them before it went through the scanner. I was more worried about the kokarden that might look like throwing stars on the xray.

When it arrived after the scanner at the spot to be inspected, I told the lady it was a fragile 100 year old helmet and she let me get it out for her. No issues.

That was in Edmonton going to Winnipeg. So when I flew from Winnipeg to Toronto I said nothing to see what would happen and it sailed though the scanner with no issues. Lots of interest from the lady in Edmonton on its history.
